Welcome to Hort-Pro

Welcome to Spring!

Another year is over for the country's foremost flower and garden show; Canada Blooms. "A Walk in the Park" is a review of the event by two of our Hort-Pro garden writers and by a marketplace vendor.

Here at the Hort-Pro, we welcome in this edition one of our readers.  Alan Ilagan wrote, by email, and submitted a few articles for us to publish.  Mr. Ilagan shared with us several articles, the first of which is called "A Gardener Returns to His Roots".  We are pleased to publish the article of any gardener so inspired to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).  Many gardeners will relate to this story and we are pleased and proud to present this our first reader's contribution.  I hope you like it as much as we did.

Bruce Zimmerman has an article for us this month called I am a Canadian Garden.  It has some beautiful examples of Canadian gardening.  Some fantastic plant examples and a lot of really great pictures.  Here we see the use of the Inuksuk Quviasuktuq Inuit sculpture in landscaping.  This article may be a little slow to download, but the quality of the photographs makes it worth the wait.

We have the March edition of Wes Porter's newsletter, City Gardening, Spring Arrives with "Canada Blooms" Wes gives us an overview of this year's Canada Blooms.  He also reviews for us some new varieties of Heuchera and Tiarella this issue, complete with descriptions and conditions.  A pruning primer is provided for those who need to refresh their pruning skills before shaping the roses, and other bushes.  We receive an update on Sudden Oak Death.  We also find the new product review on a few items.  Mr. Porter looks at some marvelous stone ornaments, natural pest control, "ceres" environmentally positive fertilizer and "Legacy" the new low maintenance turf grass.  He also includes his monthly features of Horticultural Happenings and Garden News around the globe.  Thanks Wesley.  Great Spring Issue!

Courtesy of Turf & Recreation we have two installments of The Duffer.  We get Ian Robinson's unique point of view on Valentines Day in his February article The Duffer... right about being wrong.   Ian outdoes even himself in his March article The Duffer...dental fairy tales, where we get his editorial view on Afghanis, women, the united states and eventually dentists.  (Please note that the opinion of the Duffer is not necessarily the opinion of the staff of the Hort-Pro, or Rittenhouse.)
