FEBRUARY 2001
Despite predictions from the groundhog Wiarton Willie (the Canadian version of the Puxatawny Phil) regarding the shortness of the winter season still upon us, it is still cold here in scenic Niagara and we are still only dreaming of the buds to come. Bruce Zimmerman has an article for us on Roses. The queen of the Valentine's season is surely the most expensive in the flower shop at this time of year. Bruce provides photographs and descriptions of David Austin Roses as well as care instructions and early spring pruning methods that will improve the roses to come. Wesley Porter brings us Mulch Ado About Snowfalls in which he tells us how to protect our lawns, evergreens and other plants against the cold that is still upon us and yet to come. He also has a few words for us on Toronto Tree Planting, Wormwood and Absinth, and has a few hints regarding cut flower purchasing. These are in addition to the usual bountiful harvest of gardening tidbits, treasures and happenings we have come to expect.
